A Documentary About Strength and Sisterhood
Swim Sistas highlights the stories of black women across generations, showcasing their return to swimming and the personal and cultural significance it holds. Featuring powerful narratives, the film touches on themes of resistance, womanhood, and reclaiming spaces traditionally not made for them. The documentary is a celebration of resilience in the face of historical barriers.
Filmed at Penshurst Place in Kent, it features inspiring women like rugby player Jasmine Boatswain, athlete Lexi Sandiford, and Roni Bruno, who learned to swim at 54. The documentary is narrated by the renowned Oscar-nominated actor Naomie Harris.
A Vision for the Future: National Archive for Black Women in Aquatic Spaces
Cat White, the filmmaker, has big plans for expanding Swim Sistas into a mini anthology series. The initiative also aims to create the UK’s first national archive dedicated to documenting the stories of black women and girls in aquatic spaces—a vital step in preserving these untold stories for future generations.
