“Villain 2” with Craig Fairbrass Heads to European Film Market
Double Dutch International has added “Villain 2” Craig Fairbrass to its European Film Market slate, confirming the return of the British actor as reformed gangster Eddie Franks. The Canadian sales and production company sees strong international potential in the sequel. Specifically, the story picks up just after Franks leaves prison—only for unknown assailants to shoot him and leave him for dead.
As a result, Franks must fight back from near-fatal injuries while protecting his estranged daughter. At the same time, he navigates London’s resurgent criminal underworld. Along the way, he uncovers betrayal, family secrets, and bitter rivalries between gangs. Ultimately, the film tests whether redemption can survive when violence drags him back in.
Ron Möring, president and CEO of Double Dutch International, called Villain “a franchise in the making.” He praised the film as “a hard-hitting action film anchored by a magnetic lead performance.” Moreover, he expressed full confidence in its global appeal. “We’re ready to bring the next chapter of Eddie Franks’ story to the international market,” he said.
Neil Linpow, known for Little Bone Lodge, steps in as director, replacing Philip Barantini, who directed the original 2020 film. Linpow explained that he immediately connected with the material. “I’ve always been drawn to stories that live in the shadows: morally compromised characters, consequences, and survival,” he said. “‘Villain 2’ is about pushing Eddie to the edge and watching what happens when he fights his way back. It’s raw, it’s visceral, it’s bold—and it doesn’t look away.”
Sharp House and Vertigo Films are producing the film in association with Impact Entertainment. Screenwriters George Russo and Greg Hall, who wrote the first movie, return to craft the sequel’s script. Jason Maza and Ian Sharp of Sharp House serve as producers, alongside Allan Niblo of Vertigo Films. Additionally, Craig Fairbrass takes on an executive producer role.
Maza and Sharp said they embraced the idea right away. “When Craig came to us with the idea of expanding the world of ‘Villain,’ we were immediately on board,” they stated. “We’re huge fans of the original and its creators, George and Greg. Therefore, we’re excited to bring this sequel to existing fans and introduce Eddie Franks to a new global audience.”
Allan Niblo echoed their enthusiasm. “We are thrilled to be bringing ‘Villain 2’ to life,” he said. “Working with Craig Fairbrass is a fantastic opportunity. This is a story about redemption, loyalty, and the lengths we’ll go to for family. Consequently, we’re excited to dive deeper into these themes with the intensity and grit audiences expect.”
The project is currently in pre-production, with filming expected to begin later this year. Given its mix of personal stakes, street-level tension, and Fairbrass’ commanding presence, “Villain 2” Craig Fairbrass aims to grow the original’s cult following while reaching new viewers worldwide. With strong creative leadership and international backing, the sequel positions itself as both a worthy follow-up and a standalone thriller in its own right.
